History of Camp Nou
Camp Nou, meaning "new field," was constructed between 1954 and 1957 to replace the smaller Camp de Les Corts stadium, which could no longer accommodate FC Barcelona's growing fanbase. The stadium was officially inaugurated on September 24, 1957, with a match between FC Barcelona and a selection of players from Warsaw. Initially holding over 93,000 spectators, it became the largest stadium in Europe at the time. Over the decades, it expanded to a capacity of approximately 98,787. The stadium was designed by architects Francesc Mitjans and Josep Soteras, inspired by the Dutch De Kuip stadium, featuring continuous oval stands for optimal viewing. Camp Nou has hosted major football events including the 1982 FIFA World Cup matches and UEFA Euro 1964 fixtures.
