87 detainees of a band that robbed in homes in Barcelona.

Mossos and Police dismantle a criminal organization to which more than 70 robberies are charged with force

The Mossos d'Esquadra and the National Police have dismantled in Barcelona one of the most active criminal organizations specialized in robberies with force in homes, after the arrest of 87 people. According to the two police forces, in a joint note, 26 of the detainees have been convicted of various crimes; of them, 14 are already in preventive detention and another 61 people were arrested for infraction of the Immigration Law.

The detainees, most of Georgian origin, are accused of more than 70 robberies with force in homes, mainly in Barcelona, ​​in other cities of Catalonia, such as Martorell, Cerdanyola del Vallès, Tarrasa, Sitges, Berga, Abrera, Mataró, Santa Coloma de Gramanet and Montcada i Reixac, and also in Madrid. The organization had an itinerant character, with great mobility in different parts of the national territory, and worked in batteries of up to five people.

The researchers found out that inside a school squatted in Barcelona more than 100 people of Georgian origin met, all of them with numerous police records in different countries of the European Union. The band was organized in batteries or subgroups of up to five people, who left at night to commit robberies in houses located in the vicinity of the occupied building, and also in other districts of the city or municipalities of the demarcation of Barcelona.

Before perpetrating the robberies, they placed some marks -small pieces of plastic- on the frames of the entrance doors, in order to know if the occupants of the floors were inside or not. Once they made sure the floor was empty, they manipulated the lock and accessed the home. The band also carried out robberies in crowded commercial establishments, both in the city of Barcelona and in other municipalities in its metropolitan area.

The operation to disband the band was carried out in different phases, and the first arrests took place in January of this year, which ended with the total eviction of the squatted building in Barcelona. The operation, called Merlín-Taka, resulted in the arrest of 26 people, 14 of whom were remanded in custody for various crimes of robbery with force, belonging to a criminal organization and receiving, while 61 other persons were also detained by violation of the Aliens Act.

The agents also registered the headquarters of the dismantled organization, in the squatted educational center, and the address of one of those investigated, in the town of Castelldefells, where the work of receiving the stolen effects was carried out. Numerous tools were used in the registers to manufacture lockpicks and door opening systems, 1,200 euros in cash, a large amount of jewelery, four memory pens and two computers.


Arrested 23 members of two bands operating in Andalusia and Castilla y León EP (Málaga)

The Civil Guard, within the framework of Operation Karma, has dismantled two violent criminal organizations dedicated to robberies with violence and intimidation in homes and public establishments in the Andalusian provinces of Malaga, Cordoba and Seville, as well as in León. It has arrested 23 people and acted against another 25 as investigated.

They have been clarified 104 crimes of robbery and theft and has seized abundant material from the robberies, in addition to 87 plants of marijuana, electrical materials and other equipment used in this type of plantations, have reported from the Civil Guard in a statement.

The investigation began in 2018 after several robberies occurred in homes and businesses in the towns of Cuevas de San Marcos and Archidona in Malaga with the same modus operandi, which generated social alarm in the area.

The investigators detected two criminal organizations, one of Romanian citizens and another of Spanish, who were acting in a coordinated and joint manner, usually at dawn and with great violence.
